What's on Tignes February 2019

February is turning out to be a fantastic month in Tignes. In the past few weeks snowfall has been followed by bluebird days.

The conditions are perfect. As well as getting out on the mountain, the resort is heaving with activities. Here is whats on in February.

Apres sport activities

The piste isn’t just amazing for skiing and sledging this month, it is great for 'palafou'. The toboggan run is a thrill-seeking adventure that runs from the Palafour lift in Le Lac from 16:45 to 19:30 each evening. The 3km track, including a 40 meter tunnel, isn’t for the faint-hearted, as you will discover the exhilarating speeds that can be reached on a sledge. The experience costs €8 and includes the hire of the sled, and a torch lit helmet.

If tobogganing sounds a little frightening to you, head up to Val Claret where the snowtubing course has just added an air-bag landing. This course is more child-friendly, as the giant buoys are suitable for kids from three years old, and can hold multiple participants. Although, once you have left the start line, there is no way of braking and you can speed up to 45kmph. Snowtubing is €15 for an hour of fun.

Six Nations

Tignes is the kind of resort where every nation of the Six Nations can peacefully watch the rugby in unison. It’s a great excuse for the pubs to extend happy hours during the games, such as at The Marmot Arms and Loop Bar in Le Lac. The Box Cafe in Lavachet are offering two €8 steins, so get the beers in.

A season of culture

Tignespace auditorium will be hosting comedians, singers and theatrical performers suitable for all the family. Guillermo Guiz will be kicking off with humour from 20:30 on February 28th. The story of a young thirty-something who makes fun of his childhood. If you have a strong understanding of the French language, why not immerse yourself in a night of laughter. Tickets are €20 for adults and €12 for school children.

School holidays

In February many families visit the resort, as the UK and French school holidays are staggered from throughout the month. ESF and Evolution 2 offer ski school packages for children first finding their feet on skis. Parents, be sure to pick up an animation guide during these weeks, as Tignes organises a range of child-friendly activities. If you are looking for entertainment during the evenings, the media centre in Maison De Tignes in Le Lac hosts a PS4 evening with the latest games every Wednesday, or Le Lagoon swimming pool is open until 20:00. Boo Bird Childcare offers an evening entertainment package including art and craft activities for €60, meaning you can relax in the hot tub whilst your children are looked after.

Eurosport Winter Tour

On February 21st and 22nd, Tignes invites you to take part in the parallel slalom on the Gliss’Park near Palafour in Le Lac. The 200m course has twenty doors, and will challenge everyone of all levels and abilities. An evening of animation will surround the course with animation, hot drinks, and a game of ‘wheel of fortune’ with many prizes to be won.

Hip Jam

On Sunday 24th from 13:00, BangingBees snowboard magazine hosts the Hip Jam at Tignes snow park in partnership with Blackcats snowboarding shop. Competitors can sign up on the day for free. The afternoon promises beer, music and good vibes.
