Tignes Apres Ski Review: 2nd January 2014

Their chilled but very much danceable après sets have become a firm favourite with locals over the past month and we went along to Loop on Christmas Day to see what all the hype was about.

The 4 piece consisting of Ronan, Tom, Tom/Diaz and Jonny, were found by Morgan this summer in Hossegor where they had been performing for the surfer community and brought to the mountains for this winter. Performing awesome sing-a-long rock covers normally, for their special Christmas set Ape House threw in a few Christmas classic bangers, such as “Last Christmas” and even “Happy Birthday (to Jesus)”. The band play covers ranging from “Sitting on the dock of the bay”, “Lovely Day”, the Coral classic “Dreaming Of You” (perfect for starting the après ski-boot dancing) through to Amy Winehouse and The Strokes. Christmas après was by no means the busiest Loop Bar can get but the boys pitched their set perfectly to deliver a chilled yet dance-worthy time to be had by all.

After chatting with Tom (or Diaz) the band’s bassist/singer, it has become apparent that week on week this great band’s set will be changing to keep the seasonnaire crowd happy as well as those on holiday. Rumour has it requests can be taken and a particularly excellent Justin Timberlake cover is in the pipeline (although I would not want to spoil which track it is for you!) I personally am now waiting for Taylor Swift’s “Shake It Off” to make an appearance, either at Après or in one of the band’s higher energy evening sets at Loop. You will most certainly find me at the front doing the aerobics routine to it.

Ape House always interact well with the crowd and pitch their energy levels at the vibes they are getting back off those in Loop, so if you want to get a big après started, by all means get down to the front and show them your happy dancing face!

Loop Bar itself deserves a stellar mention as any seasonnaire worth their salt will know it is THE bar in Tignes and delivers awesome Après fun and outrageous nights out, everyday of the season. With live music on Tues-Fri every week, Loop Bar always provides the most fun for seasonnaires and holiday makers a-like, drawing loyal customers back year after year. Their awesome 10% loyalty card (which is free to all!) definitely doesn’t hurt people’s opinion of the bar either!

Playing host to an eclectic mix of bands, solo artists and DJs every week, be sure to head down to take advantage of their epic Happy Hour offers, which run from 16.00-18.00 every day. Enjoy €13 pitchers of beer, €13 bottles of wine, 2-4-€7 Vin Chaud or 2-4-€9 Vodka Mixers whilst enjoying the sounds of Ape House, Dutch Courage (an upbeat rock-cover band), DJ Kommissar (the resident epic international DeeeJay), Hobo Chic (a solo acoustic guitar player with a bit of beat boxing thrown in), Snaithy (another very talented solo acoustic performer) or Alex Davies (a happy chappy also on the guitar). Loop bar should definitely be on every holiday-makers to-do list as they will not be disappointed with the good-priced drinks and awesome bar staff!

It is worth mentioning that one very high profile band will be making an appearance at Loop Bar soon and it will be a ticketed event. So if you want to catch the amazing Sunset Sons on January 5th you had best pop into Loop in the next couple of days to make sure you can! Until the next Après…
