Some of the best days of the season this week and lots of snow to come

Tuesday and Wednesday have been some of the best days of the 2014 winter here in Tignes & Val d'Isere.

Tuesday was one of "The Top Days of the Season" according to our friend at Alpine Experience Andreas who scored some epic snow this week.

There was a lot of snow early in the week followed by clear skies and sun shine. There is good snow cover down to 1300m with a good fifteen to thirty sentimetres on the higher northfacing slopes. The south facing slopes below 2500m have become a little crusty due to the sunny weather we had on Tuesday and Wednesday but there is still some great powder to be had in the off piste.

On the pistes the snow has been great too and the sunshine and clear skies made for som lovely skiing and snowboarding, certianly the pistes in Tignes look better than the halpipe in Sochi.

Today the Espace Killy is due some thickening clouds and generalised snow fall which will peak at the end of the morning before calming through the day and picking up again in the evening with as much as 30-50cm of snow possible above 2000m, according to avalanche expert and Off-piste guide Henry Schniewind.

There might be some sun on Satuday morning and this will be the time to hit the slopes. With the bus holiday season starting this weekend town will be busy but the mountain should be quiet.
