Tignes Snow Report: 15th January 2014

Great powder snow today in the sunshine

featured in Snow report Author James Fisher, Tignes Video Reporter Updated

Thanks to Andreas Bjorklund from Alpine Experience Off-Piste Ski Schhol for today's Tignes snow report.

We had around 30 cm of fresh snow Monday / Tuesday which has allowed for some great skiing lately!! Also, the last snow fell without much wind so it felt quite stable with only very few slabs.

The base has also stabilized a little, especially on the southern exposure. Be careful though, there is still some "rotten" snow on many aspects (mostly northen) and this will stay like that for a long time, possibly the rest of the season. The base is also more stable in areas that have been heavily skied already this year, we call that "skiers compaction" so take this in consideration when you decide where to ride! Lastly since the powder that fell was super light and lovely it also means that it's very easy to hit rocks that have only just been covered. Ride very slowly in areas where you are not sure about a good base.

Have fun, be safe!
