Touring season begins in Tignes

March begins with excellent conditions across the resort

featured in Snow report Author Floss - FreeFlo Ski, Tignes Reporter Updated

This year's exceptional snowpack means we can look forward to a great spring. The most recent snowfall brought us 30cm of new snow, meaning plenty of classic lines are in great condition.

The Refuge du Palais is now open for the season meaning you can visit for lunch or stay overnight. Avalanche risk is at 3/5, which is considerable, so take all the necessary precautions when heading off-piste. Check the latest bulletin and, if i any doubt, hire a professional mountain guide.

The school holidays have largely ended so the pistes are much quieter now. The weather ahead looks unsettled and will bring with it more snow in the coming days.

Tignes dump alerts and snow reports are brought to you by Floss, from FreeFlo Ski. Read more from her on her website.

Ski safely off-piste

Exploring beyond the ski resort boundaries is an amazing experience for anyone who's physically fit and has mastered the pistes well enough. There are, however, risks associated with venturing outside the safety of the marked/patrolled ski area, including awareness of your actions on those below you on the slopes. Mountain guides are professionally qualified and have extensive knowledge of the local terrain, to provide you with the safest and most enjoyable possible experience in the mountains; as a visitor here we highly recommend you hiring one. Many ski schools and also mountain guides provide instruction in off-piste skiing, avalanche safety and mountaineering techniques. Make your time in the mountains unforgettable for the right reasons, ski safe!
