On Sunday just gone, 81 people had to be evacuated from the funicular leading to the Grande-Motte glacier due to a technical fault between two of the cabins.

Safety systems were immediately triggered and the cabins were brought to a standstill.

No-one was hurt and everyone on board was evacuated safely back down to the base of the lift by around 4pm.

At the moment, while technical teams investigate what went wrong, the funicular will remain closed. Access to the glacier is still possible though, via the chairlifts.
