There are four main villages in Tignes, all of them are linked to the same great ski area and connected via free shuttle bus services. From the lowest elevation to the highest, they are Tignes 1800 (Les Boisses), Le Lac, Lavachet and Val Claret. Tignes also has direct buses to the nearest large town, Bourg Saint Maurice, as well as with the neighbouring resort of Val d'Isère.

Airport bus services to Bourg Saint Maurice and Tignes

Below is information on getting to Bourg St Maurice from the airport if you haven't booked a transfer in advance. Please note, we advise that you book a transfer from the airport directly to resort before your holiday via this page: Tignes transfers. The nearby town of Bourg St Maurice is home to an international train station and this is where you will alight if you take the TGV or Eurostar to resort in the winter. There is also a mainline bus station here, where bus services from all of the nearby airports make a stop.

  • Chambery airport to Bourg Saint Maurice buses operate twice daily on Saturdays and once on Sundays during the ski season. It takes around 2h30 to get to Bourg Saint Maurice from Chambery airport by bus and then approximately another 1h30 to get up to Tignes.
  • Lyon airport to Bourg Saint Maurice buses run on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays during the ski season and take around three hours to get here. They operate once a day on Fridays, four times on Saturdays and once on Sundays. A connecting bus will then take you up to resort.
  • Geneva airport buses to Bourg Saint Maurice operate every day of the week in winter with eight buses on Saturdays, one on Sundays and three on all the other days of the week. This route takes around 2h45 hours to reach Bourg St Maurice, but these buses then continue on up the mountain, first to Tignes (calling at Les Brevieres, Tignes 1800, Le Lac and Val Claret) and then on to Val d'Isère (stopping at La Daille and Val d'Isère centre). The total journey time from Geneva to Tignes Val Claret is around 3h30.
  • Grenoble airport buses to Bourg Saint Maurice operate several times per day on Saturdays and once on Sunday morning in winter. It takes around 2h45 to get to Bourg Saint Maurice from this airport and a total of 3h50 to get all the way to Tignes Le Lac, depending on weather and traffic conditions.

Tignes local buses

Tignes boasts an efficient, free shuttle bus service with 24 bus stops from Les Boisses all the way up to La Grand Motte. The Tignes 2100 route between Le Lavachet and Val Claret operates from 06:30 to 21:30, with night buses running from 21:30 to 05:45. The Tignes 1800 route runs between Tignes 2100 and Tignes 1800 from 07:15 to 00:30 every day.

Pedestrians can also travel for free between Les Brévières and Les Boisses (Tignes 1800) via the Brévières gondola during normal lift opening hours. This gondola is also kept open into the evening every Wednesday and Thursday so that you can enjoy dinner or a spot of après ski in one of the higher level Tignes resorts. Evening operating hours are 17:30 to 21:00 and then 21:30 to 23:30 throughout the winter season.

About Getting to Les Arcs

Tignes regional buses

If you wish to explore a little further afield during your stay, then there is a bus terminus (Gare Routière) in the centre of Val Claret and another at Le Lac, where a couple of international coaches also stop.

From the gare routière you can take the bus down to the nearest town, Bourg St Maurice, located approximately 30km away at the bottom of the mountain. The local bus (Line T15) takes around one hour to get to Bourg from Tignes, stopping at Le Lac, Tignes 1800, Brévières, St Foy and Séez en route. Once in Bourg, you can take onward services to the neighbouring ski resorts of Val d'Isère and La Rosiere, or the funicular railway directly up to Les Arcs.
