Twelve skiers in Tignes suffered minor injuries when a ski lift cable derailed for unknown reasons yesterday.
The incident happened at 9.15am when the cable of a button lift (on the teleski du Rosolin) slipped out of the pulley mechanism and fell to the ground.
Of the skiers on the lift at the time, twelve were said to have been hit by the cable but only two skiers needed to be evacuated off the slopes by the ski patrol. The cable hit the skiers bruising their neck, shoulders and arms, however most skiers were able to ski away from the scene of the incident.

The local PGHM mountain rescue services said it was extremely rare for this to happen and were due to carry out a full investigation.
