featured in News & Reviews Author Robin Deering, Tignes Editor Updated

With the success of artificial snow in Tignes, providing better skiing conditions when snow is a bit scarce - the resort of Tignes are testing solar canons to improve skiing conditions when sunlight is bit scarce, effectively eliminating flat light.

In a limited test area a number of solar canons have been placed in busy areas to see if the equipment can reduce the number of accidents on cloudy days.
The high power lamps are not intended to mimic the sun but simply maximise definition in low light conditions.
If tests are successful, Tignes hopes to invest in a number of the solar powered sun canons for next season.
