The 2.50 metres of snow recorded yesterday in Tignes at 2080m have broken all the January records! And they're close to smashing all-time records, ever since 1981 when snow depth measurements officially started in France.

According to Meteo-Alpes, longer winters like the ones in 1966 and 1970 might have seen more snow, but there's no official information as to the snow depths then. What is certain is that we're experiencing an exceptional early winter season with tonnes of snow all over the Alps. The significant precipitations on Sunday and Monday night helped break the record.

Snow depths in Tignes currently stand at 2.30m at Tignes Le Lac (2100m) and an impressive 3.50m at the Grande Motte glacier (3300m). The rest of the week will see cloudy skies, with the sun shining on Friday and during the weekend. Enjoy the fresh snow!
