First snow report from Tignes for the 2018/19 winter season
Fresh snow and cold temperatures mean a good start in resort
This week, Tignes got its first taste of the winter season as the sky and mountains turned a denser shade of white. Temperatures had been resting in the minus and now the resort is completely covered in snow.
The pathways temporarily disappeared in resort as there is 12cm of snow at 2100m. Even Les Brevieres (1500m) felt its share in snowflakes, as the trees have begun to blend into white mountains.

At present 45% of the piste is open and 79% of the lifts. You can currently make your way around the glacier Grand Motte and La Toviere, skiing from Le Lac to Val Claret. On November 24th the resort planned to open the connections between Tignes and Val D’isere, however this was postponed because of the lack of snowfall before the weekend. Although there is no official date for the opening of the connection, the price of a lift pass has remained at the discounted autumn price.

Wednesday was a beautiful bluebird day and many ski enthusiasts went off piste, hiking through knee deep powder to achieve fresh lines. The wind has been light and there is an avalanche of 2/3, making conditions ideal. It’s a fantastic time to be in resort. Those lucky enough to experience this arrival of snow are able to achieve fantastic lines up at the glacier, with a ride on Tignes new gondola. Offering crystal clear views ,visitors are able to see just how much snow has arrived across the Alps and capture the first snowy panoramic of the huge stretch of mountains that surround the resort.

The forecast for Tignes predicts more light snow showers over the next week with intervals of bluebird mornings. Temperatures are circling freezing point, currently dipping as low as -7 degrees. It’s truly a promising start to the season and Tignes residents are grateful to be entering December with most of the ski areas open.
