Tignes glacier will NOT open September 29th

Hot summer makes for poor early season conditions

Although previously reported to open on September 29th 2018, it appears that the Grande Motte glacier is not in a skiable condition and will not be open for several weeks.

This will be a big blow to the ski teams that were planning to use the early opening for final preparations ahead of the Alpine Skiing World Cup in Solden, Austria, on October 27th and 28th. The Société des Téléphériques de la Grande Motte, the Régie des Pistes and the Town Hall of Tignes have taken the joint decision to postpone the opening of the Grande Motte ski area at a later date, which is yet to be announced.
