Tignes Apres Ski Report: 13th February 2013

Husky Rides, Powder and Valentines Caper

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Toby Leadbetter, Tignes Reporter Updated

February isn't just the second month of the year, it's home to a day that gets a lot of males in trouble and that ladies have high hopes for. Saint Valentines Day.

Cupid must have known that it was on it's way in Tignes as he sent every last one of us seasonaires a week of heavy snow, and what has felt like days and days of fresh lines. It really has been a fantastic few days of fresh pow. The temps have been varying from Arctic to bearable which has led to the resort's slopes being pretty empty. The last week has been amazing riding, and the snowfall should set us up until March. Personally I would like to thank you Cupid for this perfect Valentines Day present.

Carrying on with this theme of romance, something has been taking my eye ever since my arrival in Tignes. Every time I head over the lake to Val Claret I see couples, families and friends having a go at dog sledding. I thought it was about time to give it ago myself, and with my girlfriend back in London, I asked my newly loved up mate Cam to be my partner on the sled.

I am a big husky fan, and have been wanting to tick this off the bucket list for years and years so with bluebird skies on Friday we hopped on our sled and took off around the track. It was fantastic. The huskies get the sled up to a great pace that gets the heart pumping and the cheering going. The rides last for about 30mins and are a great way to to get around the lake.

The company I went with are called Evolution 2 and I'd highly recommend booking in advance as it is a very popular thing to do around the resort. The prices are €80 for two and €105 for three. It does seem like a lot of money but I can say it really is worth it Besides it's a great way for the lads to get in the good books on the day that so often gets us in trouble. Keeping the ladies happy really is priceless.

On Monday we went up to SoBar for their monthly Anti-Quiz, which is anything but your normal pub quiz. Each member of the 7 teams have to pay a Gold coin to enter the quiz which was made up of 5 very entertaining rounds. The teams have to do their best at making a cocktail, make a snow inspired sculpture out of tin foil, do an obstacle course, hula hoop,, a memory game and finally drunken charades. The bar was full of laughs making the atmosphere of the place epic. The Kiwis managed to get on the podium taking third place, but we will be definitely gunning to take out the top prize come March. It was a fantastic night enjoyed by all and I would most definitely get involved next month. I will give everyone a heads up a week out.

With Valentines Day being tomorrow I am trying to give the bros warning, it's a safe bet most will have forgotten. Many of the restaurants and bars are doing deals in honour of Cupid and his loved up ways. The snow keeps falling, and for that I thank you St Valentine. All we need now is a bluebird day to get out there and shred it.

Happy Valentines Day people, hope the ladies are happy and the men stay out of the dog box.

Enjoy!
