Winter has partially begun in Tignes already, with the glacier having opened on the October 17th. With that in mind, what new developments can visitors expect to see when they get to the resort?

In less than two weeks, winter 2018 officially begins in Tignes as the remaining lifts are scheduled to open on November 24th. World's highest open top gondola

Tignes is now home to the the worlds largest and highest open-top cable car, which climbs from the Panoramic Restaurant (3,034m) to the Grand Motte glacier (3,456m) within five minutes. The two new cabins can transport 100 passengers inside a sleek, modern shell of floor-to-ceiling windows, offering a 360-degree view of the beautiful French Alp panoramas. Upstairs on the open-air viewing terrace, a further 20 passengers can enjoy aerial views of Mont Blanc and The Vanoise National Park- although this is unlikely to be open during the winter season due to the unpredictable weather conditions.

Designed in Switzerland by Garaventa AG, the Gondola has state of the art safety technology and will transport 1000 passengers to the glacier per hour. The Gondola is the first phase of a three-year €17 million development called Altitude Experiences which aims to promote and educate visitors about protecting the natural habitat. The operating company STGM will see that this whole area is refurbished with various viewing platforms and indoor exhibitions. The Sache gondola and Brevieres chairlift have also been replace by a nine place cable car in order to connect Les Brevieres (1500m) to Boisses (1800m.) It is estimated that the Boisses gondola will be able to transport 3,000 passengers per hour up to Tignes.
