Four Seasons in One Day

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Toby Leadbetter, Tignes Reporter Updated

This week has reminded me of a favourite Crowded House song named, "Four Seasons in One Day". We have had rain, heavy snow, a 12 degree bluebird day and freezing temperatures. This has lead to a couple of outdoor Après sessions as well as a couple of indoor boozing events. We've certainly been carrying on the recent trend of being large, but also entertaining.

On Wednesday night we were farewelling Kate, sister of one of the super seven Anna. We thought it was only fair to get stuck into a few drinking games and go check out Blue Girls in Val Claret. Usually it is the older sibling taking the younger sibling under their wing and looking after them. This however wasn't the situation for the Gilberts. Anna and Smurf didn't do too well in the pre night drinking games and it was up to Kate and me (I'm always responsible) to make sure the loose units got in control of their seals and made it to the bar. Once we arrived it was more than I had expected, a packed bar, lots of stages and also a few well placed poles to swing on. After an hour or two we decided to head back for a few nightcaps at our place. It wasn't till then that I was informed Blue Girls is a strip club, and a favourite of most Val Claret males. I must have gone on the night off for the workers but none the less it was a great night and a good way to send off Kate.

On Thursday night, fresh of finding love, Mog decided to ask our other loved up flatty Cam to partner him in beer pong for the competition held at SoBar. The team name themselves 'Tight Pong, Wet Knuk' finished off a slab of Stellas and headed up proudly representing the Kiwis with their matching Silver Fern beanies. 12 teams entered, each team having to pay €5, with the total sum going to the winner, or the option to double it on a bar tab. Cam and Mog breezed through the first few rounds and eventually found themselves very intoxicated in the final. The match went down to the wire with the eventual winners, 'Bad Santa and Sweden' taking the cup. It was a great night as it so often is at SoBar with a few new faces and a lot of laughs and banter.

On Monday night after a day on the slopes, we had our mates over from Val d'Isere for some drinks. It was also Patty from Tignes Cusine's birthday - a well known figure in the Tignes community. We all meet up at Scottys in Lavachet where the night got very messy. I'm sure at one point I saw three people out the front, decorating the snow with their dinner. It was a great night with fellow seasonaires and quite a few were sporting sore heads on Tuesday I'm sure.

It was another large week in Tignes for myself which is becoming the usual of late. It doesn't look like it will slow down for us Kiwis with the much anticipated X-Games next week. The flat is full again with visitors and friends which has us all very excited. Let's hope for more sunshine and cheap beers.

Have a good week.....
