Tignes Apres Ski Report: 17th January 2013

New Venues and New Snow

featured in Nightlife reviews Author Toby Leadbetter, Tignes Reporter Updated

I'm not sure if it was 2013, Russian week,or all the cursing but this week the snow came back!! The eagerly anticipated first dump of the New Year hit Tignes on Thursday evening and provided an unbelievable day on Saturday.

Unlike anywhere else in the world, weekends are the quietest times in the Alps. It's what known as transfer days. So when you're lucky enough to score half metre of pow and a bluebird Saturday, you make the most of it! I was lucky enough to slip away from work and get a couple of hours of fresh face shots, but I was very envious of the couple of hundred people riding the once again world class conditions all day. With more snow forecast for the start of this week, if you're on holiday this week, you're in for some good times.

As the bodies were sore and tired after the work out in our natural gym, we decide to treat ourselves and try out one of Le Lavachet local restaurants. Tar Tignes is found right next to Tignes Sprit and overlooks the Sherpa. It's a cozy place, which is great for a quiet diner or also a more rowdy crowd. As there were a few of us bragging about our amazing, textbook pow lines from the day been, the place seemed to empty out pretty quickly! The wine is served in litre bottles at a grey price of €10. We managed to tick of most the menu between us, ranging from hearty burgers to chicken fillets. I can most definitely vouch for the duck, which was fantastic. All and all our wee walk to Tar Tignes was a huge success. With no meal over €15 and the quality far exceeding that we felt we had struck gold. I would strongly recommend a meal and a visit to Tar Tignes

After our meal we were all pretty merry so decided to walk the wobbly 50metres to SoBar. I hadn't been in for a while due to the festive season gutting my wallet but it felt like we had never left. The igloo was filled with laughs on arrival and JP and Fairy were happy as larry naming the bar. After thrashing JP at darts, and necking my winners vessel we finished the night off having laughs and banter with of course multiple night caps. It was a great way to celebrate the first dump of the new year.

On Sunday night we decided to head back over to Val Claret and hit our late night D-floor, The Melting Pot. We were well on our way after a few rounds of drinking games, which made the -15 temp bearable. It wasn't as packed as previous visits which was actually quite nice. We got a few rounds in and cut some shapes. After a couple of hours of dancing we ran into some mates and carried the party on at theirs until the alcohol dried up. It ended up being an unexpectedly large night for a Sunday.

Russian week ended up being a non event for us but we made sure we drunk enough vodka to make Maria Sharapova proud. With more snow on the way, Tignes is a buzz and the apres is as good as I have seen.

Get your warm socks on and go have a dance.
