X marked the spot this week in Tignes with the most anticipated event of the season finally arriving. The X-Games were held in Val Claret mid week, with most of the biggest names in the sports we love attending.

However the day before the games kicked of nearly stole the show, with the snow gods gifting us with a 40cm blue bird. It was one of the days of the season and came from out of the blue. A fantastic way to lead into the games and got the town grinning from ear to ear.

After the day from the gods, we headed back to ours for a BBQ and some drinks in our powder filled backyard. Once there our mate let us know that he was playing a DJ set at The Marmot Arms, and he was being accompanied by the Violinist from the Folie Douce. This made most the dudes at our place quite excited and of course we said we would head along to support him. When we arrived it was obvious that a lot of people had heard about the gig, and it was packed both upstairs and down. When Kev and Blonde big chested violin girl came on, I'm sure Kev was stoked with the cheer! The set was great and the crowd loved it. I hadn't been to The Marmot Arms for a while, and this night reminded me of how good it is. It's a favorite hang out for the seasonaires and being in the heart of Le Lac, it attracts a few holiday makers as well. It was a great way to finish of the amazing day and night, and set us up for the games ahead.

Val Claret was packed from top to bottom during the games so we found ourselves at our normal spots during the week. On Thursday night we headed along to SoBar where myself and the Naki Mutts got amongst open Mic night. The normal faces were there, including the Le Brasero Mic hog, but this time some the word had obviously got out and some genuine performers were there. We were lucky enough to have Fairy share some of her own grey poetry as well as JP tell a joke that would have the Izamum Ul Haq turning in his grave. The highlight fir myself would have to be the Naki Rota Hunnies three way, remixing Emeli Sande, Read All About It. The night finished off with 4 of the more talented performers getting together for a jam session, which to my delight, included the saxophone. It was a great night, which is growing from week to week so make sure you check it out.

Throughout the week I managed to get up and watch a lot of the games. Tignes came through with flying colors, nailing both the logistics and the set up. I love the super pipe and was not disappointed. Louie Vito went one better than last year taking out the men’s snowboard title with special mention to the kiwis Jossi Wells, placing second in men’s skiing slopestyle and his brother Byron who just missed out in the podium in the skiing super pipe.

For a number of our flat the end of the games signaled the end of the season, with Smurf sealing her way to London this past weekend. We will miss Smurfs antics, French knowledge and love of chasing the seal. Our emotions will forever be more stable now since her departure. We wish you all the best at nappie changing and mashing apples in south bath.

The week lived up to the hype and we all loved watching our idols and role models perform. With the season now starting to wine down for a lot of us, let's hope for a few more surprise dumps and the BBQ back out from under the snow.

Enjoy the spring conditions
