Getting Fit at the Sports Centre

Try the Tignes Fitness Centre for a Healthy Start to 2015 and Some Cross-Training

featured in Activity reviews Author Holly Millar, Tignes Reporter Updated

January is well under way, so it might be a good time to hit the gym and start working on those New Years resolutions you've been talking about. The Tignes fitness centre at Le Lagon is a great place to start. Whether you are a seasonnaire or just here on holiday, an afternoon or evening at the gym might be just the thing to start a 2015.

Any skier or snowboarder with experience will tell you that being 'in shape' will make your time on the slopes a million times more enjoyable. You know that crazy burn in your legs at the end of the first day out or after a hike over to an off piste spot? It's pretty easy to avoid that by adding a few gym sessions to your weekly routine. And, if you've been enjoying a few TOO many après sessions this season, it might just be about time to switch it up.

Le Lagon is a great facility situated right in Le Lac. In addition to the fitness centre and weights room, the building has a beautiful swimming pool and wellness centre. With plenty of options to choose from, a trip to Le Lagon is a great post-ski activity for anyone - young families will especially love the water slide at the pool. So if you've decided to take a day off from the slopes, you can still get some excercise (or just choose to pamper yourself and lounge around).

For the fitness centre and weights room, the facility features lots of new equipment and machines to choose from. If you have a hard time working out on your own, there are multiple classes offered in the fitness room ranging from Pilates, Bike, African Dance Fever, Body Barre... The list goes on!

In the weights room, unfortunately there are only two treadmills, but when then fitness room is not occupied, there are LOTS of spin bikes available. If you are intimidated by all the machines and sweaty people gruntin beside you, just ask one of the friendly fitness centre staff that call themselves 'over-motivated'. There is always someone on duty ready to help you out and explain how to use a machine or improve your technique.

For admission, there are different price options and discounts available for holidaymakers, seasonnaires and locals. For a one time entry, the rate is 9€, for a week long pass you only pay 36€ and for 10 entries it costs 72€. For a season passes, just speak to the front desk and see what discounts apply. Note that the fitness centre is for adults 16 years and over and different rates apply for the pool and wellness centre.

Le Lagon is open everyday from 11.00 to 21.00, except for Saturday when it opens at 14.00 and closes at 19.30. The schedule can be a bit tricky for those who like to visit the gym in the morning, but the quality and convenience of the facility far outweighs the shorter opening times. Remember - if you want to avoid the crowds and have a quieter work out, visit the fitness centre during off-peak hours (usually before 16.00 or after 19.00).

So when those big powder days finally arrive, you won't miss out and working on your legs will definitely pay off throughout the season. Plus, they have free Powerade available...

Happy work out everyone!
