After spending two years scuba diving in the warm waters of Thailand, I was very intrigued to see if I would hold up under the ice in conditions that were very new to me.
If you're looking for something a little out of the ordinary to do on an evening after skiing, Evolution 2 offer the chance to join a 'Wilderness Camp' in the forests near Tignes.
This Wednesday evening brought the first session of yoga to Tignes Espace. This season yoga instructor Ady Hayhoe plans to run yoga sessions every Wednesday in the brand new Tignes Espace for an hour starting at 19.00.
It was my first ever trip to Tignes this weekend and I must say I've been really impressed. We were there predominantly for the free lift-accessed mountain biking, but if you're thinking of taking a holiday in the Alps with the family, a group of friends or as a couple, you won't be disappointed with the wide array of activities on offer. There's literally something for everyone, set with an amazing back-drop of dramatic mountains and glaciers.
Santa is on his way to Tignes and he's bringing with him some snow. Although it has been a slow start to the winter in terms of snowfall all that is set to change on Christmas Day and Boxing Day with over 30cms due to fall.
The middle of winter is still a great time for an outdoor market – especially in France. If you haven’t been to check out the bi-weekly market in Le Lac yet, I suggest you make it part of your next shopping excursion. It’s full of delicious foods and fun finds.
We’ve had another period of calm and settled conditions over the past week with a little snow (5cm) on Friday night which topped things up nicely. I’ve been out doing much less ski-touring over the week and much more lift served side country skiing as the off piste conditions from the lifts have been so great.
It’s been another incredible week of skiing in the Espace Killy! With high winds and the associated high avalanche risk last week we had to think very hard about where and when to ski.
Looking for an excuse to hold that special someone's hand this Valentine's Day? Need an inexpensive and easy way to be romantic? Or maybe just a fun afternoon activity post ski? Going skating on the frozen lake is just the thing in Tignes!
What can be more fun than spending an hour of your day jumping around like a kid? Not much! (Well maybe finding some sweet fresh powder).
‘Is this real life?’ This was the question I kept asking myself as I flew over Tignes, in total awe, in a tiny flying machine. Strapped into a seat just behind the pilot, with nothing to really hold onto and no walls/windows around me, I felt a little terrified, excited, and all the unbelievable sensations of flying. Going for a flight in a pendular microlight is not something I thought I would ever do, but it was probably one of the coolest things I have ever done.
Keeping an eye on the weather and the snow conditions, Tuesday 14th November was a perfect time to leave Tignes and go to Val d’Isere to start our backcountry ski touring hut to hut adventure which began in the Manchet valley. It would also give us a great opportunity to check conditions and the snowpack for the winter coming.
It's been an incredibly busy week here in the Espace Killy, with French and British half term coinciding it’s definitely been prime time to slap on the skins and go for a walk to escape the holiday crowds.
La Folie Douce is one of the liveliest paces to head on the mountain for apres ski, with cabaret dancers, musicians and magnums of champagne being delivered to thirsty party-goers by a mini cable car.
If bungee jumping is on your bucket list, then the new Bun J Ride in Tignes is just for you. Have you seen the giant jump at the top of the Merles chairlift yet? This is the site of Tignes’ latest snow-based activity for thrill seekers. Ever dreamed of hitting a massive jump and flying through the air like you are in the X Games? Then this is your chance!
If you are looking for a fun afternoon/evening and a great way to humiliate yourself, the bowling alley in Tignes is just the place. Or it was for me. Not having bowled in quite some time I forgot how embarrassing this sport can be.
Since the week's worth of snowfall on the 20th November, we have been given some epic on and off piste skiing conditions.
