The pace picks up in the Espace Killy

Snow snow and more snow!

By Jen Tsang, Updated

Last week we saw the beginning of the February half term weeks kick-off.

And whilst it has been a bit of a shock to the system to see so many people back in the mountains. It’s fair to say that there are big smiles all-round, welcoming the crowds back to Espace Killy.

It feels like we are in the midst of a resort revived, and the atmosphere around the resort is fun and exciting! And it’s not just the arrival of the people that is causing this happiness! As I’m writing this report, I’m watching the snow continue to fall. Yep, we are in the middle of a Big Snow Dump!

Snow Report
As of Wednesday, we have seen 20+cms fall on the mountains, and it is still going strong. We have had weekly snow top-ups over the past few weeks, and so the pistes are feeling great right now. The sun did pop out for a little visit yesterday, and I can confirm that the off-piste areas looked good and felt really fresh. However, the weather has closed right back in today, so it is not safe to explore right now.
But, when the sun comes back out - which might not be until next week! - there is enough snow falling that off-piste should be pretty spectacular when the sun comes back out! But, please make sure you are exploring safely: listen to the local weather reports avalanche risks and never head out without the correct equipment and a guide who knows what they are doing.

Snow Forecast
The falling snow looks set to continue through the rest of Wednesday and then is easing up over Thursday BUT then picking back up again on Friday. The one concern we have is that it looks like the temperatures are rising throughout the rest of today and tomorrow. So we need the freezing level to remain low. Otherwise, we might see that snow forecast turning to rain!
So keep watching the snow reports. I would expect the forecast to change, so don’t rely on them more than 24 hours ahead, as the combination of snowfall, temperature changes, and possible high winds will make for an interesting end to the week!

Jen's Top Tips

  • Avoid the crowds as much as possible you’re going to want to get out at ‘off peak’ times, that is 9-10am 12-2pm and 3-5pm when the mountain is noticeably quieter.
  • Pay attention to where the ski school hot spots are and avoid them if you can. If you can’t avoid them, just try to schedule it so you aren’t hitting these places in the same timeframe as them.
  • Make the most of half-term weeks by checking out all the extra activities and fun things on offer from the resort.
  • Always check the avalanche risk and don't head off-piste if you don't have
