After a fair weekend with some sunshine, it really cooled down this week with a mixed bag of cloud and snow showers. We woke up to fresh snow this morning in Tignes and there is more on the way.

Current weather in Tignes

So it’s lightly snowing right now down to around 1700m, this snow will remain light and intermittent today. The temperatures at around 2500m are going to remain consistent at -7°C. Tomorrow (Friday) will be more of the same with the snow increasing in the evening and overnight.

What’s coming up

This weekend is set to be a snowy one, with over 30cm of fresh snow forecast due to an incoming low-pressure system. Temperatures will drop slightly, bringing the snow line down to 1100m by Sunday evening.

From Monday it looks like the sun could make an appearance and Tuesday and Wednesday are predicted to be quite sunny days! Slightly warmer during the day but freezing level remaining low at 1300m. Temperatures will range from -3°C to -7°C at around 2500m and winds will be very light.

Avalanche risk

Fresh snowfall and wind slabs remain the main hazards, with recent wet snow increasing the risk of small wet avalanches. Avalanche-prone areas are commonly found near ridgelines, bowls, gullies, and places where the slope angles change abruptly.

The avalanche risk is expected to rise but currently stands at level 2 (moderate) in Tignes. Caution is advised. If heading off-piste, ensure you have the proper equipment, up-to-date weather information, and seek advice from the resort or a qualified guide.

Not everyone skis

Coming to Tignes in winter doesn’t have to be all about the skiing, there are so many activities for non-skiers which means everyone can enjoy a family or group holiday in a ski resort. There are plenty of other exciting activities to enjoy

Why not:

buy a pedestrian pass and jump on a lift
go to après-ski along with everyone else
ride a train, skidoo, horse or husky sled
visit a spa for some relaxation and rejuvenation
book a restaurant on a sunny terrace for lunch, Tuesday and Wednesday are looking like the favourite days for sunshine
learn Nordic skiing or try snowshoeing - you might just like it!
and there’s always shopping and a local french market to visit too!
