Happy New Year everyone! All you snow lovers must be very happy with the wonderful snow and sunshine you’ve had over the last couple of festive weeks and you’ve woken up to fresh snow this morning in Tignes.
The start of 2025 brings a more unsettled period to the weather, after the last few days of high pressure. The cold front that came in on Thursday brought with it around 24cm of fresh new snow during the evening and overnight. The snow line reached below 1000 metres and we saw temperatures fall to -8°C.
Looks like there is more snow to come…but this cold front is creating uncertainty in the weather and we are receiving conflicting information from our weather experts. It will remain fairly cold through today, getting a little milder over the weekend with maybe light snow on Saturday evening over 2000 - 2500 metres, below that it will be rain.
After the weekend, the freezing level will begin to fall again and the next significant snow is currently predicted to fall on Monday evening with the snowline dropping to 1200 - 1350 metres. More snow and moderate winds are forecast on Wednesday, but the freezing level will rise to over 2000 metres.
Next week sees the return of calmer and quieter slopes in Tignes. Shorter lift queues and much easier to secure that table for lunch on the mountains. Time to enjoy some fabulous January skiing.
